Welcome to Rogers Arena

Orca Bay pulled a bit of a surprise announcement today. While Vancouver used to be the laughing stock of the sports business world, today announcement bought some respectability back. Why laughing stock you ask? Well the home of the Vancouver Canucks used to be, until today at least, used to be called GM Place. The cost for those naming rights? $18.5 million for 20 years. 20! Big Country Reeves made more money in less time, and that’s when you know its bad.

Instead today Orca Bay signed a ten year agreement with Rogers Communications. A move that makes more sense than GM. The space for opening up communications and connections within the communities is limitless. Games and updates on cell phones and berrys, are inevitable and you know Rogers influence and controls in publishing and broadcasting will come into play soon too. I’d expect Team 1040 to get a run for their money when negotiating time comes around. Rogers has already said that they’re looking to expand their reach and influence as much as possible. And, why wouldn’t they? You know they’re paying a ton more money than GM. Which is great for Francisco Aquilini. No word on what the actual amount was.

Let’s just hope we’re not having to sit through any Blue Jay promotions.
