Sports Notes
Seeing as it’s been a week since the last post, let’s see if we can catch up to some of the things that have gone down in the last week or so.
The NHL Awards went down in Las Vegas, and the Canucks cleaned up with 5 awards out of the possible 13, yet, every Canuck fan feels a little empty.
You gotta like the idea of an award show for the NHL, you just hope that it was executed much better. Jay Mohr is funny on and off, and yeah, it’s a tough crowd, but it’s tough to call the show entertaining. That being said, awards is one of the things the NHL does better than a few other leagues. The NBA, for example, interrupt playoff games to award regular season prizing. How distracting must that be?
The NHL Draft went down today, and the Oilers picked first, having sucked for a second season in a row. Suck they may, but this team is going to be hella good in a few seasons. At least, that’s what Yoda says. The key of course, is that they keep the players together. We all know how players get when they stay in the city of champions a bit too long.
The Canucks picked Danish forward Niklas Jensen, one thing that’s a plus about the Oshawa General was that he does have some size. Furthermore, Central Scouting had him ranked at 21 among North American skaters, Vancouver picking him at 29 may have got a little bit of a steal. Of course, any pick is a bit of a crap shoot. Jensen is expected to play in the OHL next season
