Olympic Host City = Stanley Cup?
There has always been a ton of theories and number games we play when it comes to our sports teams. Like the twelve year theory with the Canucks, that something amazing will happen every twelve years. Team formed in 1970, 82 cup run, 94 cup run, 06.. never mind.there’s another interesting one though, and its about the winter Olympics, supposedly north American cities that have hosted the games have had a city close by win the Stanley cup. You got Montreal, Calgary, lake placid, and salt lake city, and yeah you’re thinking the jazz play basketball asshole, but the Avs are pretty damn close. Could the Vancouver Canucks continue that streak?
Olympic Host Cities winning Stanley Cup within the year
1976 Montreal/Montreal Canadians
1980 Lake Placid/New York Islanders
1988 Calgary/Calgary Flames
2002 Salt Lake/ Colorado Avalanche (Avs are the closest NHL Franchise to Salt Lake City)

Ok idiot, Calgary hosted in 88 won in 89, Montreal hosted in 76 won in 77, so the idea is actually that the host city wins the year after…obviously. but thanks for coming out
And the Avs won it in 2001 not 2002. And what about the Olympics in 1996 hosted by Atlanta? Of course the Thrashers weren’t around but Nashville and Carolina (the 2 closest NHL cities) both came into the league in 97 which would have worked had they won the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season. Don’t try to shoehorn data into a trend that’s strictly Canadian. Go Canucks!!
Actually the olympics were in lake placid in 1932 as well and the islanders won in 33 too
