Keith Ballard – Tomas Vokoun: Headshot!

What the hell? Keith Ballard for some reason thought he was in an Unreal Tournament world when he swung his stick at a goal post, missed completely and hit his own goalie Tomas Vokoun in the head/neck.

WOW!

You can’t get the severity of it until you watch it on video (which is below), but the guy got stretchered off! First off, we have confirmed that Keith Ballard may never have picked up baseball bat in his life. After going the wrong way on a Ilya Kovalchuk breakaway goal, Ballard got frustrated and tried to smash his stick on the goal post. As we said, he missed it, and smoked his teammate in the head/neck.

I know a lot of people are calling Ballards move bush league, but come on, a ton of players bang their stick against the post. A ton of players break their stick over the knee, at the end of the day, you want your players to be emotional. Does breaking a stick give the other team fuel? Sure, a little bit. But, what an idiot Keith Ballard must feel like, and now, it looks like Vokoun will be missing a few days. All thanks to his teammates stick.

In a related note, Ovie threw a knee on knee hit in Carolina, took the worst of it, and is said to be injured. Our take? Whatever his injury may be, Ovie should be suspended five games for this latest infraction. I don’t  care who he is, he’s a repeat offender at this point.
