Empire State of Mind

In what may be one of the coolest opportunities for the citizens of BC in taking in a piece of nostalgia, Empire Stadium, already dubbed ‘Tempire Stadium’ and ‘Empire Field’ was announced today as the temporary venue for the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps. The one season idea has its appeal in the fact that it is just for the one season, as BC Place undergoes a transformation by being given a retractable roof.

The value of the stadium is also expected to increase in the fact that only 27,500 seats are avalable, added novelty in the fact that they will mostly be individual seats, rather than rows of seats. The site will also feature 12 suites. The Lions played at the old stadium from 1954 to 1982, the Whitecaps also used the facility. For the Whitecaps, the temporary venue is the perfect springboard before landing in the new BC Place as well as the MLS in 2011.

We’d recommend you get your tickets while you can.
