Canucks Kicking Off New Season…
Unless you’ve been living under a rock you should know that the Vancouver Canucks are going to kick off their 2009/2010 campaign tomorrow night against the Calgary Flames in cowtown. Big news out of Canucks camp? Well, Cody ‘COHO’ Hodgson will not be cracking the lineup, and has been returned to the CHL. Good news for Cody? Gets to play for Canada gain in the juniors.
Bad News? Doesn’t make buckets of money, rides the buses, and doesn’t play in the NHL. What’s it mean for the Canucks? Maybe,
for the first time in a very long time, the team actually has some depth. 3 years ago, if our number 1 pick didn’t make it, the city would be panicking. Does that say more about the team or the fans? I don’t know.
Who else didn’t make it? Vets Dave Scatchard, and Mark Parrish. Our ‘goaltender of the future ‘Corey Schneider also didn’t make it, which might have been for the best, he’s just got to get better. Who else goes? A bit of a surprise in Brad Lukowich, this guy seemed to be so happy just to be here. Maybe, he was just so happy, he couldn’t play. Similar to one of those guys who can’t believe he’s dating a girl 10 times better looking than him, that eventually she can’t believe it either. And leaves. Canucks in turn waived them.
So, who stays? Our backup of the future, our robin to his batman, Andrew Raycroft. Over on the blueline, a lone surprise, Aaron Rome.
The guy who calls Nesbitt home will now skate in an actual NHL regular season game, pretty cool, truth be told, he did impress. When
it comes to the forwards, there’s a few surprises there too. First off there’s the Russian kid who’s getting everyone excited, Sergei
Shirokov, we’ll get just as excited if he’s still on the team in 20 games. Who else is there? Tanner Glass. If you’re wondering who
Tanner Glass is, you’re not the only one. But he proved better than Michael Grabner, or even Matt Pope.
