Fond Memories of 2010
Another year has come and gone and as we count down the final hours of 2010 we reflect upon a year that gave us many ups and downs and memories that will shape our lives for the future.
We witnessed some of the worst natural disasters ever in Haiti and Chile, and watched in disgust as the BP Oil spilled spread throughout the Gulf of Mexico. There was the heroic rescue of the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 17 days. We saw the demise of sports’ top golfer Tiger Woods and championships go to New Orleans in the Superbowl, Chicago in the Stanley Cup, the L.A. Lakers in the NBA Championships, Spain in the World Cup and San Francisco in the World Series. There was the infamous late night television debacle between Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno and NBC. Our lives were all changed forever with the introduction of 2 new electronic devices from Apple, the iPad in January and the iPhone 4 in June. And many celebrated locally when Gordon Campbell announced he was resigning from his position as Premier of BC and the HST petition passed forcing a future referendum.
But without a doubt, our most memorable moment of the past 365 days has to be the 2010 Winter Olympics. Held right here in our own backyard, our country was swept up in all the excitement of these once in a lifetime games that were capped off by that fairytale ending, a 3-2 overtime victory over the US in the men’s gold medal hockey game. In the end we held one hell of a party for the world over 17 days and showcased some of this country’s finest athletes as well as a patriotism that no one never knew we had in us.
It’s hard to believe that it was almost 11 months ago that the party all started but the hangover still lingers today and will probably never fade.
Below we have posted a two-part video recapping some of the celebrations from across the country from that one memorable moment. Without a doubt everyone will always remember where they were when Sidney Crosby ended it all. CAUTION: These videos are bound to give you goosebumps. Enjoy and Happy New Year to all!
