Skytrain and Medical Emergencies

In the last three weeks there have been three different incidents or as Skytrain patrol likes to call them, ‘medical emergencies’. Now, this is three that we’re aware of, who knows how many more there have been. Each one has been slightly more escalated than the previous. The latest coming Sunday, with a medical emergency at Metrotown Station, the majority of riders take the term to mean suicide or accidental fall onto the tracks. We’re not going to lament about deciding to take your life, while ruining peoples days is selfish, because those people probably don’t care, and likely can’t read this anyway.

We’re talking about some sort of contingency plan. This latest stall of the system was not only poorly communicated by staff at stations, it wasn’t presented with instructions via the PA system either. You gotta tell people what the hell is going on. Now, we’ve got a little show coming to town in February, where there will be hundreds of people teetering on station platforms, it’s almost an unfortunate guarantee that an accident will occur. We can only hope some desperate soul decides to see a trained physician before seeing a train. Can you imagine the pandemonium at stations throughout the system on a Friday evening if we have another one of these? I understand things happen, but they gotta beef up security or patrols. Now, of course, the majority of staff that do the patrols are incredibly useless, but that comes with the territory.

What about how all these crazy Americans may act after drinking real beer? We don’t want to be all gloom and doom, but seriously, I don’t wanna be freezing my ass off at Granville Skytrain Station with not a taxi in sight because some dude lost his job. I gotta sleep!
