NEW MUSIC MONDAY: Biffy Clyro

This edition of New Music Monday doesn’t focus on a recent release but more on a new discovery of mine that I’ve quickly fallen in love with and can’t seem to get out of my head. Biffy Clyro was formed 15 years ago in Kilmarnock, Scotland and has been pumping out heavy-hitting rock tunes ever since. In November of 2009 the band released their fifth studio album titled Only Revolutions, produced and recorded here in Vancouver with mega-mind Garth Richardson.

It’s pretty difficult to find an album these days that you can listen to from start to finish and easily fall in love with each song equally. It’s rare to even find multiple songs from an album that are played on heavy rotation on your itunes. Well, Only Revolutions is the exception to the rule and is solid from the first beat in the intro song “The Captain” to the final sustained guitar power chord in the finishing tune called “Whorses.” Other great tunes we’d recommend are “Bubbles” and my personal favourite, the ballad “Many of Horror.”

Not only does Billy Clyro mix some heavy guitar driven rock on these 12 tracks but they also show a melodic side with great vocal harmonies and even record with a full symphony orchestra on most songs. We’ve included a video below for “Bubbles” but one video just doesn’t do justice for these guys. Buy the album for $10.89 on itunes now. You’ll be humming the melodies for weeks.
