Just as the title says, Kimmel hosted this years White Spot Correspondent’s Dinner and killed. You might remember last years event, when Barack Obama had peoples sides splitting, and then 24 hours announced that NAVY Seals had killed Osama Bin Laden. No announcement that they’d stopped Kony after this one.

This story made the weblines a few weeks back, and it keeps getting interest. Casey Neistat gained popularity through a number of ‘viral’ campaigns, he lobbied Apple regarding weak batteries in iPods, and then he made a video why riding in New York bike lanes is more dangerous than not riding in New York bike lanes. Check out that clip below. It starts with him filming himself getting a ticket.

Well, Nike, with their billions of dollars, and millions of childrens ears to the street heard about the film maker, and, thought, why the hell don’t we get this guy on our side? We’ll pay him a shit load of money, and he can make an advert for our #make it count campaign. Casey decided to take them up on the offer, but, he and a friend decided to fly around the world, and not stop until they ran out of cash. How long did that take? 10 days. The video has caught enough steam, that it’s likely done the trick for Nike, even if Casey and his mate were trying out an act of rebellion. The clip is just under 5 minutes of wonderfully edited adrenaline.

You can say the Hockey Hall of Fame gets a lot of things wrong, including the players it does and doesn’t induct, but, there’s no denying that the three ads to support the ‘most hockey dreams die’ campaign hit the mark. They’re entertaining, funny, and kinda make you want to look up in awe at Dick Duffs name in the hall. K, maybe they’re not that amazing.

It’s another day, and another questionable hit in the NHL Playoffs. Could this be any worse for the NHL family friendly brand of hockey? One thing is certain, more casual fans will tune into hockey games next year, especially the playoffs. All it cost were some scrambled brains. The new rule in the hockey disciplinary office of Brendan Shanahan seems to be dirty hits and plays can only be committed by star players, any player that lives on the 3rd or 4th line may face an actual suspension. Tonight’s culprit? Raffi Torres Torres last made major headlines for his hit last year on Brent Seabrook. A hit which was claimed to target the head, while the player was in a vulnerable position. Sounds like the Dustin Brown on Henrik Sedin hit this year. Neither hit resulted in a suspension.

He also laid a hit on Jordan Eberle, a hit that definetly targeted the head, and resulted in a 4 game suspension. Here’s a look at that one.

Here’s the latest, from tonight Torres takes out Marian Hossa. Hossa was carried out on a stretcher.

Every music fan should get out to at least one music festival in their lifetime, there are few things better than camping out, eating terrible, over priced camper food, consuming plenty of alcohol, and waiting for your favourite act to arrive on stage, while sat on the grass. They’re usually three day events, and everyone walking up to festival grounds is hoping for more than a few surprise guests and covers, and to fall in love with something completely new. It’s a musical buffet for every taste. Now, of the festivals, there are the major ones, and Coachella falls into that category. Some of the novelty may wear off as the festival is essentially replicated a weekend from now, and one can only wonder if the first will be as jam packed with guest appearances, when there’s not as much media presence. After scouring hundreds of hours of video, here are a few clips that seemed to stand out. And, of course, you have to include the performance everyones talking about, a show of light and sound, and a reincarnated 2Pac, it was like a rappers Easter.

How deep was the lineup? Not featured below, but at the festival was Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine, Bon Iver, David Gueta, Pulp, Justice, At The Drive-In, and AVICII. You could pretty much complete a musical bucket list with that weekend.

Every genre was on display on the fields of Indio, including electronic, few seem to be more on target as Swedish House Mafia are at the moment.

We Were Promised Jetpacks perform ‘Thunder and Lightning’ to a pretty timid crowd.

Noel Gallagher may not be touring with Oasis, but he and his band the High Flying Birds do have a strong disc they’re supporting.

M83. You don’t need to say much more than that do you?

The Black Keys may be the best rock band on the planet right now, making music that is appreciated by the masses and the critics. Check out this clip of ‘I Got Mine’.

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre had a ton of guest rappers join them, Wiz Khalifa seemed to fit the festival bill the best with his sing along ‘Young, Wild and Free’

Graffiti is a constant topic of discussion in city hall and town hall meetings. It’s considered a destructive, anti-social, criminal act of vandalism. Many cities cite their steadfast determination to removing graffiti as a key element of reducing crime. How can a little spray paint cause such harm you may ask? Well, if you’re talking about gang tags, scribbles letting you know that ‘Sam Wuz Here’, or swear words, it makes the surroundings you call home feel worth less. I agree to a certain extent, there’s no room for simple tagging, or the spray painting of shit looking faces, and swear words. There is a line though where this ‘criminal activity’ becomes art. I’m not a fan of the simple garbage, because there’s no merit behind it. Drawing a face with a big nose on the side of a building may be an attempt at art, but, is nowhere close to being appealing to look at. I’d rather draw moustaches on magazine faces, or billboard faces. That, at least, has a level of amusement.

The argument can also be made that advertisers cover your city with messages making you feel small, ugly, poor, and worthless, unless you purchase their products. Why not fill the sides of buildings, billboards, and public places/property with street art. That seems to be the mission of Banksy, a semi-anonymous street artist. He’s trotted the globe, leaving his mark in Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto, London, even the wall that stands between Palestine and Israel. He encourages people to print out his images and use them however they like for personal gain, he’s an artist that encourages the artistic expression of his fans, even if it involves his work. Celebrities have purchased his work in the five and six figures. His art has been known to be auctioned off by art houses, but leaving the removal of it up to the winning bidder.

If you’ve never heard of him, he’s worth reading up on, here’s a look at some of my favourite Banksy pieces.

Remember Chucky? He was everyone’s most hated doll, that little fucker scared the shit out of everyone when we were younger. Well, now, there’s a doll, or a teddy bear, that you’ll wish was real. From the great twisted, beautiful mind of Seth McFarlane, the guy who created Family Guy, comes Ted. It stars Mark Wahlberg (John), Mila Kunis (Lori) in a film about a couple whose life is being interrupted by a teddy bear that was wished to life by John when he was a little boy.
The movie looks fantastic, and doesn’t seem to fully rely on the gag of a cute fuzzy bear having a ‘potty mouth’. Check out the red band trailer to catch a couple of minutes of its glory.

Going to Vegas just got a little more expensive, especially for those Vancouverites that like to fly out of Bellingham. Allegiant Airlines have announced that they’ll begin to charge for carry on luggage. The low fare airline already charges for checked luggage, charging $35 for the first checked bag, and $50 for the second. The carry on luggage will be much the same, ranging from $10 -35, a discount will be offered if you pay before you arrive at the airport. The only acceptable free carry on item will be a purse or a briefcase. Of course, for folks who live across the border from the Bellingham airport, the charge wouldn’t have a huge impact, as, usually you’re saving a few hundred dollars when flying from the American airport. What you have to remember, is that Allegiants other customers, living in other states, have a number of choices for discount airlines. It’s only in Canada that we our wallets get pillaged to book short haul flights. I’d imagine Allegiant regularly waiving these carry on fees in renewed nationwide promotions, while consistently charging Bellingham flights the surcharge. It’s just a different market.

Everyone knows what a ‘guy movie’ is, it’s where there’s as much ‘healthy’ content as the bucket of popcorn in your laps. When it comes to guy movies, it’s pretty rare that there are sequels. A good one is hard to duplicate, and actors often walk away from sequel talk, no matter how much a studio offers them. It’s for that reason, that the sequels usually aren’t very good, the original directors or actors, that make the characters so familiar aren’t back for part two. Maybe, then, for that reason, this past week has been like a dream come true for movie fans all over.

First there was the pretty sweet trailer for the remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, ‘Total Recall’ . This one features Colin Farrell, a bleach blond John Cho (Harold and Kumar), Jessica Biel, and Kate Beckinsale. It also stars Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston. Pretty bad ass cast, no word on if it stars a three boob Martian. Check out the trailer below.

If your Ahnold fix hasn’t been met with the Total Recall make, a comedy classic, and guy film favourite Twins is getting a sequel, at least that’s the very viable rumour. The clincher? It would star Arnie, Danny DeVito, and be directed by Ivan Reitman. If you don’t remember Twins, check out the trailer below, and a pretty solidly funny interview of DeVito talking about it.

It doesn’t end there! It gets better! One of the movies that produces one liners that 70% of the time do the trick every time is getting a sequel. It’s announcement came in the middle of Conan O’Briens late night talk show, and was made by its star, Ron Burgundy. One, can only hope Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Chistina Applegate, and David Koecher come back.

It doesn’t end with every fans favourite news room. Why? Well, maybe one of the most beloved comedies of all time is getting a sequel. A real one. Dumb and Dumber gets referenced in 1 of 8 mens conversations (made up stat), the ‘prequel’ starring two guys, not named Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, and directed by a guy whose last name is not Farrelly. Well, the sequel will bring back Jim and Jeff as Lloyd and Harry. The Farrelly Brothers will be back to direct, and they’re set to start shooting in September.

This one is the big enchilada, you just pray, and pray that it doesn’t suck.

Here’s the hit.

What can be said, that hasn’t already been said? It was a hit of the dirtiest kind, and,it was predatory. The NHL and disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan can’t call it predatory because it’s tough to string a hit from Daniel Sedin on Keith to this hit in particular. To add to that, Keith acted as if he didn’t notice the hit he received from Daniel Sedin, which is obviously not true – the guy is known for being slippery than a bar of jail house soap. You’d think the fact of the puck being nowhere close, and Keith going directly for Sedin’s head would be predatory enough. But, like an old Canuck once said, ‘It is what it is’.

Shanahan has handed down a five game ban to Duncan Keith, a suspension that will cost Keith $149,688. The suspension is immediately being compared to the Shane Doan hit, and the Aaron Rome hit from last years playoffs.

Check those out here.

Rome was suspended for 4 games. In the Stanley Cup Finals.

Of course, optics play a huge role here, and it’s tough to compare one hit to another, because we’re not actually receiving or throwing them. The look or ‘non look’ on Horton’s face was likely a huge factor, because, you haven’t seen dead eyes like that since Paul Kariya took a hit from Scott Stevens.

How do the two cities feel about the suspension?

Well, Chicago will say that Keith is missing critical games for playoff positioning, while Canuck fans will say that he’s getting rested for the playoffs. Sean O’Donnell is slate to take his place starting against the Nashville Predators.
