Vampire Weekend – Cousins

So they showed up back in 2008 at Pemberton Festival, and slowly but surely they’ve gone through some growing pains, and now resemble one of the many bands, on the verge. Doesn’t it often feel like a bit of a lottery gamble when you go see a band, and you’re convinced that you’re seeing them before they go huge? And the don’t. Then you see that they’ve been selected for a Victory Ceremony for the 2010 Olympics in BC Place. Then you realise, shit, they really aren’t go to make it.

Well, no VANOC touch of gold for Vampire Weekend, they’re coming out with an album called Contra, and it’s getting a worldwide release on January 11.They’re pretty good, and look as if they’ve taken another big step in the right direction on their latest. We’ll let you know when this New York act decides to come back to the Wetcoast.

Check out a very cool, frenetic video for Cousins. They don’t look like rockers, but who does anymore?

Thanks to Dan for the heads up on this one. Oh yeah, PemFest? Probably not happening til 2011 – too many issues with policing, businesses, CN Rail, and how to deal with enough dust that you think you’re on the set of Tremors.
