The MTV Video Music Awards go down tomorrow, and of course, they’re accompanied by the usual hype. A star studded, dynamite, lineup of performances, we’re told. But, is it really?

Let’s see who there is that’s performing….
Usher, Pink, Katy Perry, Jay-Z, 30 Seconds To Mars, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, Linkin Park, and Florence and the Machine.

Not bad, you’re thinking? Are there any would be legends in that mix? You could definetly make the case for Jay-Z and Ye. Maybe, even, Lady Gaga.

BUT…Compare that performing lineup to this one from 1992.

1. The Black Crowes “Remedy”
2. Bobby Brown “Humpin’ Around”
3. U2 “Even Better Than the Real Thing”
4. Def Leppard “Let’s Get Rocked”
5. Nirvana “Lithium”
6. Elton John “The One”
7. Pearl Jam “Jeremy”
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers “Give It Away”
9. Michael Jackson “Black or White”
10. Bryan Adams “Do I Have to Say the Words”
11. En Vogue “Free Your Mind”
12. Eric Clapton “Tears In Heaven”
13. Guns N’ Roses & Elton John “November Rain”

It’s like a lineup from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!

Even the final lineup of 1989 is pretty rocking…
1. Madonna “Express Yourself”
2. Bobby Brown “On Our Own”
3. Def Leppard “Tear It Down”
4. Tone-Loc “Wild Thing”
5. The Cult “Fire Woman”
6. Paula Abdul “Straight Up” / “Forever Your Girl” / “Cold Hearted Snake”
7. Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora “Livin’ On a Prayer” / “Wanted Dead or Alive”
8. The Cure “Just Like Heaven”
9. Cher “If I Could Turn Back Time”
10. The Rolling Stones “Mixed Emotions”
11. Axl Rose & Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers “Free Fallin'” / “Heartbreak Hotel”

Not bad huh? It’s all good though, the MuchMusic Video Awards has got Kardinal Offishal, Rita McNeil, and Anne Murray. Check out the opener from Nirvana back in 1992.
