Glasto ’11 Complete

The most famous greenfield festival in the world is over. That’s right, Glastonbury has come to a close for another year across the pond. Three days of music, madness, and mud will lead to a few days of review and conversation regarding what performance or group stood out. It will also lead to years upon years of memories for all festival goers. Now, while music editors and professional critics spent the three nights checking out amazing tunes, and raced back to iPads or notebooks to talk of what set was better than the others, I, having watched the majority of the festival online on the other side of the planet, certify myself to be the perfect critic of what was good, and what was a bit shit.

Coldplay, and Beyonce seem to be the standouts, while Warpaint put on a solid show. Morrissey, while, debated if he lived up to the hype, he’s a dude no matter which way you put it. U2′s first showing at the festival, wasnt’ met with the excitement you’d expect, as a matter of fact, a few weren’t looking too forward to Bono’s ‘Watch me Jesus’ act, and held up a sign reading ‘U pay taxes 2′. The set itself, wasn’t actually too impressive.

Check out the three clips that stood out for me, if you’re wondering, Biffy Clyro, Wu Tang Clan, BB King, Radiohead, Elbow, Mumford and Sons, Fleet Foxes, Primal Scream, and Paul Simon were all included among the hundreds of performers. Not to mention, Barenaked Ladies, Kaiser Chiefs, Ron Sexsmith, City and Colour, ADF, Flogging Molly, KT Tunstall, Suzanne Vega, Crystal Castles, Robyn, Cage the Elephant, Kool and the Gang, and the musical living legends, Chumbwumba. I mean, that’s just a small part of the lineup, you can see why this festival is considered the best of the best. Now, imagine trying to stand out among this group.
