Celebration 2010 – Surrey Bolsters Lineup

You know what?
Surrey gets a lot of slack, it always gets a bad reputation, maybe it’s the gunplay and random shootings, maybe it’s the old ‘Surrey Girls’ reputation. At the end of the day, anyone that’s spent a little bit of time in the city itself, soon realises it’s like any other place. It’s got its good bits, and it’s bad bits. Say what you about Surrey, we’ll say this. When it comes to Olympic celebrations, Surrey kicks ass on Vancouver, and dare we say it, Whistler.

We’ve lamented in a previous post how weak the lineup for the Victory ceremonies are, well, maybe those cities should’ve taken some pointers
from Surrey. Spread over a bigger period of time, check out just a few of
the acts who are planning to perform.

Blue Rodeo
Sam Roberts Band
Randy Bachman
54-40
Tokyo Police Club
Wintersleep
Hot Hot Heat
The Arkells
Mother Mother
Hey Ocean!
Marianas Trench
Alex Cuba
Hey Rosetta!
Five Alarm Funk

The best part of it all?
It’s all free. Surrey 1 Vancouver 0

Actually I still think Vancouvers medal performers but Vancouver has to pay. are better than Surrey’s. And really Whistler’s outclasses them all. Nice try in bringing Surrey up but it failed just like it will with its Central City concept which is taking too long to get off the ground.

Also in addition to the medal peformers Vancouver has two live sites, one downtown, one in Yaletown, word is that The Roots, Deadmau5 and get this…U2 (rumour only) are being bandied about it to perform. Yes these will be for free. There will also be nightly fireworks and laser lighting shows etc…

Surrey -100 Vancouver well do we even need to say anything.
