Research in Motion released a sneak peek of their new Blackberry 6 software as well as the upcoming Blackberry Bold Slider. I’ll be honest with you, in my opinion the Blackberry allows you to communicate more effectively with your friends and family. The iPhone is a better ‘gadget’, the apps allow you to connect with folks around you, and keeps you entertained. They’re essentially going after two different markets. I’m a firm believer that a Berry is the go to choice for a business user, where as an iPhone is the go to for everyone else. One of the things that sets the Berrys aside is the Blackberry Messenger, a fast, easy to use, intuitive instant messaging tool.

With the latest upgrades, RIM seems to be following in Apples footsteps in terms of the interface, it’s a shame they didn’t go a little outside of the box.

Ice Cube has got to be one of the more under rated artists of our time. Here’s a guy who established himself as a critical and commercial success when it comes to rap music and gangsta rap music. He’s also well known for his strong acting skills in a variety of movies and genres from Three Kings to the ‘Are We There Yet’ franchise. He’s also a writer, producer, and director. Give this guy a paintbrush, and he’d probably impress you. He was given the helm at directing one of 30 for 30 films for ESPN. A series that I can’t say enough about, not only is this series of shows going to go down as maybe some of the best sport documentaries created, it’s going to be a massive success when it hits DVD/Blu Ray, which it undoubtedly will. An absolute must watch for the sports fan.

Well, Ice Cube does it justice by talking about the impact that the Oakland Raiders had on the LA scene. What more? You can watch the whole damn thing right here. Amazing work Ice Cube, amazing work ESPN.

Seriously, wasn’t it the Brits that were throwing stones our way for our Olympics? Remember that? They were calling them the worst games ever, as the rest of the World and the folks that visited called them the best games ever?

Well, one of the things that many people said Vancouver 2010 did really well, was the marketing. Although our Olympic logo took some flack early on, the Inukshuk was simple, instantly recognizable, and easy to market. There were Inukshuk t shirts, key chains, models, stickers, lunch boxes, and everything of the like. London 2012 released their logo for the upcoming Summer Olympics, a homage to street graphics and design. Cool Idea. Horrible execution. A very lazy looking 12 year old graffiti style 2012 emerged, with no homage in any way to England.

Well, this week, they revealed their Mascots, or as the rest of the world will likely call them, the Robotic Penises. Now, I’m digging the names, they’re called Mandeville and Wenlock, historical references to the Olympics in England. Of course, the names ooze ‘Olde England’ but that’s all good. The issue is what the hell are you to do with these mascots? What child would possibly want to run around with these phallic, bowling pin looking things? You look at Vancouver 2010 mascots, and it’s a merchandisers dream. Quatchi, Sumi, Miga, and Muk Muk were all pretty cute and safe mascots, and quickly became plush toys and everything else you could think of. The mascots paid some homage to the games and the city of Vancouver itself. The only item we can see that pays homage on these two, is the taxi light. Which is great because nowhere in the world does any other city have a taxi. Seriously, where’s your head at London?

Logo, Mascots….Vancouver 2 London 0

Yeah, it’s been a few days, I’m going to blame a second round exit, and never ending house chores on keeping me off the keyboard. I wanted to share a trailer, an extended one at that, for a movie that I’m really looking quite forward to. It’s Exit Through the Gift Shop, and profiles Banksy. For those of you who don’t know who Banksy is, some would call him an artist, some a vandal, some socially relevant, others a mere miscreant. He’s a graffiti artist, but not the kind like those 13 year old boys in your neighborhood that run around tagging shit, or writing ‘Dave wuz here’. He literally puts things up that make you stop, and think, shit, that looks kinda cool. He’s also a little bit of a ‘guerrilla artist’, he’s put up fake pieces in some of the worlds most famous museums and galleries.

This trailer showcases him, it’s a sort of documentary, infotainment in the truest sense of the word. It’ll undoubtedly make the very unknown Banksy very popular, and a shit load of money. Enjoy.

On a side note, I’d love it if Banksy ‘attacked’ the corner shop wall near my house.

Call me a hater, call me what you want. Justin Bieber is madly overrated. I can’t even believe I’ve actually gotta call some 16 year old kid overrated. This guy to me is in the same league as Sean Kingston. Except Sean Kingston looks a little more like that girl from Precious. And Justin Bieber would totally be that girls bitch, not Sean Kingstons’, but Precious’s.

We’re going to do a couple of things here, one show you a video down below from down under, showcasing a few things, one, his understanding of the world, and two, how quickly he forgets he’s from Canada.

The other thing is that we’re going to take a look at his hit track, Baby. The lyrics are shown below, or as we should say words accompanying the word ‘baby’ are below. He says the word itself 55 times.

(Ohh wooaahhh) x3

You know you love me
I know you care
Just shout whenever,
And I’ll be there
You want my love
You want my heart
And we would never, ever, ever be apart

So, let’s take a look at the first stanza, pretty easy, pretty obvious that he digs some 12 year old girl, and that they’ll never part. At least until high school.

Are we an item?
Girl quit playin’
We’re just friends,
What are you sayin’?
Said there’s another as you look right in my eyes
My first love, broke my heart for the first time

What the hells happened here? This girls two timing Justin? ‘Girl, quit playin’ , looks like our kid JB just got played.

And I was like
Baby, baby, baby ooh
Like
Baby, baby, baby noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
I thought you’d always be mine (mine)
Baby, baby, baby ohh
Like
Baby, baby, baby noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
I thought you’d always be mine (mine)

So this girl breaks his heart, and the best he comes up with is he continues to call her baby. Well, why she left is starting to make sense.

Oh oh For you, I would have done whatever
And I just can’t believe we ain’t together
And I wanna play it cool
But I’m losin’ you
I’ll buy you anything
I’ll buy you any ring
Cause I’m in pieces
Baby fix me
And just shake me till you wake me from this bad dream
I’m goin down, down, down, down
And I just can’t believe my first love won’t be around

Ok, ok, he’s getting it back together, he’s saying he’ll play it cool, but hold on, he’ll buy her anything, any ring? JB, how the fuck is that playing it cool? You just got played, and now you’re buying rings? And, where is your sixteen year old ass getting enough money for rings?!

 And I’m like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
Like
Baby, baby, baby noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
I thought you’d always be mine (mine)
Baby, baby, baby ohh
Like
Baby, baby, baby noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh

I thought you’d always be mine (mine)

Well, when in doubt, go back to the baby, baby stuff.
(Luda)
When I was 13, I had my first love
There was nobody compared to my baby
And nobody came between us, no one could ever come above
She had me going crazy, oh I was star-struck,
She woke me up daily, don’t need no Starbucks(Woo! )
She made my heart pound, I skip a beat when I see her in the street
And at school on the playground but I really wanna see her on the weekend
She knows she got me dazing cuz she was so amazing
And now my heart is breaking but I just keep on saying…

Street Nawlidge! Ludacris shows up, apparently, this single appearance also cost him his entire street cred. So, Luda had his first love when he was 13, and he ’s talking about love. She made his heart pound, that’s what it’s supposed to do fool. Then he goes on to talk about how he didn’t need no Starbucks. Luda, you 33 years old! They didn’t have no Starbucks when your ass was 13! They sure as hell didn’t have it in the hood! And, what street cred was Luda building at 13 in a god damn Starbucks?! Seriously, Ludacris just bust up his friggin’ career. Luda, how broke is your ass?! Chicken n Beer was a decent album man! How the hell can you be outta money?!

Baby, baby, baby ohh
Like
Baby, baby, baby noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
I thought you’d always be mine (mine)

Baby, baby, baby ohhh
Like
Baby, baby, baby, noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
I though you’d always be mine (mine)

Hot Damn! Again with the babies! Give it up! She left your Sports Day having ass.

I’m gone
Yeahh, yeah, yeah
Yeahh, yeahhh
Now I’m all gone
Yeahh, yeah, yeah
Yeahh, yeahhh
Now I’m all gone
Yeahh, yeah, yeah
Yeahh, yeahhh

The Vancouver art gallery is one of the stops on the very first touring exhibit from world renowned Musee D’Orsay. The exhibit, which will run from June 5 to Sept 6 will feature pieces from 19th century artists, including Renoir,Manet, and Seurat. The collection itself reflects the increasing independence of women in that French era. How proud Borat would be! All kidding aside, this is just what the VAG needs, more exhibits! As a world class city you’d expect to see many more galleries and displays. Every time I’ve been in another city walking along some major street or strip, you see countless galleries and art shops. Art is such a key part of every culture, and it’d be great to see more in this great city. Want to attract a large portion of the Vancouver market? Bring an exhibition that focuses on Asian art and artifacts.

We’re fans of funny, we also like to think we have a pretty good gauge on what’s funny and what’s not, keeping in mind that some things aren’t funny to everyone. But, before we launch into what the title points out, let’s give you a little background, Fawlty Towers, Chris Rock, Monty Python, Bill Cosby, Jerry Seinfeld, Ricky Gervais, Tom and Jerry, Laurel and Hardy are all very funny to us. They are extremely varied, joke about all sorts of things, some are considered crude, others are considered dull, but to us, they’re all very funny. So, we have a pretty strong understanding of what’s funny.

Dane Cook is not funny. Shit, this guy might be the most overrated comedian on the face of the planet, no, no he’s not. He’s the most overrated man, maybe human being on the face of the planet. That guy in the office next to you who is known as the guy that can balance a cup on the tip of his nose? He’s fucking Albert Einstein compared to Dane Cook.

Joke thief is a common used term in the world of comedy, Carlos Mencia is notorious for it, and recently Dane Cook is being labeled a joke thief. What’s a joke thief? It’s pretty self explanatory, it’s a guy that steals jokes, and re-tells them as his own. How does Dane Cook play into this? He’s apparently jacked a bunch of material from Louis CK, illustrated by the video below. Here’s the thing though, he takes pretty funny jokes from Louis CK, and he ruins them. He actually makes them unfunny. You could give Dane Cook the Abbot and Costellos ‘Who’s on first’ skit, and he’d actually miss the entire point of it, while flailing around like an idiot. Somebody needs to shut Dane Cook up, and for the love of pete, don’t give this guy any more movies, please!

Let’s start in GM Place…

The Vancouver Canucks are setting records left, right, and center when it comes to points and wins. Henrik Sedin looks like he’s going to catch Pavel Bure for most points by a Canuck in a single season, and hold off Alexander Ovechkin for the Art Ross, amazing!

Here’s what’s nuttier, take a look at how knock your socks off exciting Ovie and Bure are and were to watch, and how clinical Hank is. Such different players, garnering a very high level of recognition, and respect. Dare we say it, Henrik’s game is a little more Canadian?

Sticking to the Canucks, one of our folks that was inside The Roxy gave us the heads up that Shane O’Brien wouldn’t have a stellar game, after he was there late. Turns out, he didn’t have a game, showing up late to practice on Monday, Coach V is sitting the locker room favorite out for three games. We’re pretty sure, as the Coach has stated that there’s a few more things in the mix, but The Roxy late Sunday? This ain’t the Olympics SOB!

Looking at the game tonight (Tuesday night), we find ourselves still not giving the desert dogs the credit they likely deserve, when asked if they’re a good team, our reply? ‘They’re having a good season’. Maybe it’s time to face facts, this team may be in Winnipeg next year, and it may be damn good.
