Operation Cornflakes was a WWII mission in 1944 and 1945 that involved tricking the German postal service into delivering anti-Nazi propaganda to Germans through the mail.

How’d they do this? Well Allied Forces would airdrop bags of false, but properly addressed mail in the areas of bombed mail trains. When recovering the mail during clean-up of the wrecks, the postal service would confuse (hopefully) the false mail for the real thing and deliver it to the various addresses.

The content of the fake mail would often be Allied Forces’ German language propaganda news sheets. Even cooler, would be that some of the mail would have forged stamps. The original stamps would have Adolf Hitlers face on them, with the words, ‘Deutsches Reich’ below. Deustsches Reich translates to German Empire. The forged stamps would have Hitlers face, but with his skull showing, and the words, ‘Futsches Reich’ (lost/destroyed empire). Copies of the fake stamps were also inserted into envelopes along with other propaganda materials. Banksy would be proud, no?

With the latest upgrades, RIM seems to be following in Apples footsteps in terms of the interface, it’s a shame they didn’t go a little outside of the box.

Steinbrenner might have been the most colorful owner in all of sports, he ran the team since 1973, and only recently handed over the day to day operations to his sons. He was known for having a fiery personality, especially with his managers. One of those managers, Billy Martin was either fired or quit five times. Steinbrenner was also known for running his teams with a strict hand, implementing a strict grooming policy, no beards or hair past shoulder length for any of the men within the organization.

Those who didn’t follow baseball, but follow fantastic television would recognize this clip from Seinfeld. You see, Larry David would often do the voice of Steinbrenner, a very loud, brash characterization, but in this one scene ‘The Boss’ actually came on himself.

There was no breakthrough performance this World Cup, not many wondergoals, no magic from Ronaldo, Baggio, Owen, or Ronaldinho. Lionel Messi although he didn’t find the back of the net like he’d like to do, was still a maestro of distribution and service. But, you still can’t sit back and say, wow, this was his tourney, the World has now noticed. Just the opposite actually, big names like Rooney, and Ronaldo might actually be better known now for choking.

Nonetheless, the streets of Madrid are likely bustling with excitement, and La Ramblas probably is still hosting an all day and night party. Spain becomes the first team since Germany (1974) to win the World Cup as reigning European Champions. And, you know what? They deserve it.
