Many groups are calling Cee Lo Greens’ track Fuck You, excessive and unnecessarily and gratuitously using poor language. But, you know what? Fuck You! This track is wicked, catchy as hell, with a great video to boot, it’s no wonder when we interviewed Tech N9ne last year, one of his dream collaborations was Cee Lo. Cee Lo defended the track as edgy art, and forward thinking, I say it’s just a great fucking song.

Running BlogTrot, inevitably puts me on quite a few mailing lists. Some are often a little annoying, others interesting, and some, simply try to get me to buy or promote something. I’m often too lazy to go through all of the details, unless it’s something I find very interesting. I don’t feel any more important by the more mailing lists I’m on. If you’re wondering what the point is, I’m getting to it. What the hell is the need to reply all to a mailing list distribution and state ‘ remove me’. Inevitably, spamming every other person on the distro, it also makes people lemmings. You see, other morons see what people are doing, and try to get themselves removed too, by replying all. What is the need to stroke ones ego, and use the reply all button? I’m too important and not in need of this list, remove me now! And, I’m letting every other person on this list know, that it’s not good enough for me. How hard is it to simply click that unsubscribe me button? I love the folks that include their job title too, an attempt to emphasize their importance. The equivalent of a dog peeing in the snow outside of a pound gate.
‘Remove me from this distribution immediately!’ Signed Timothy, head grocery bagger.

I get mailing lists are a pain in the ass sometimes, but, seriously? Use some fucking etiquette.

He leaked his single with Beyonce, See Me Now, as well as unleashing a deadly ‘Power’ remix with Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz.

I know, I know, another movie trailer, but there are some pretty good ones out right now, we can only hope that the movies are as good. This one is called Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds, who is probably one of the more underrated actors in Hollywood at the moment. The movie is about a guy who wakes up in a coffin six feet underground, with no idea how he got there. Think Phone Booth meets Hope in a coffin a la Days of Our Lives.

Shopping in of itself, I find a pretty tough experience. I can never find exactly what I want, I always feel like I’m paying too much, and then the constant frenzied atmosphere in a mall or shopping center just bogs you down. If you ever wondered why do men hate shopping so much? I’m going to spell it out for you right here. Shopping is putting yourself out there, all of those people that you’d never want to spend a minute of your life with, you make the decision to cram into a building together, and compete. Secretly, we all smile when some Joe Schmo is at a counter and you know he’s paying too much for something. We all take such joy in knowing that at that very moment, it’s not us that’s getting ripped off. It’s the crying babies, locked up in little cages disguised as play pens, the screaming ones strapped into their strollers, roaring at the top of their lungs. Its the over bearing, way too loud crazy mum that reams into her daughter in the middle of the mall, thinking it’s an acceptable form of discipline. Then the lady wonders how her sweet little daughter got herself pregnant a few years later. It’s the lady that doesn’t stop ripping into her boyfriend or spouse, and that uncomfortable understanding between you and the other guy, that sooner or later it’s going to be turn. It’s the group of kids that walk by an Aldo like they’re walking by 110th street. It’s the men who love their novelty souvenir t shirts. Those who want to let you know that they’ve been there, done that, got the overpriced, tacky t shirt that’s now a size too small. How is it a good thing that I know your last vacation without even talking to you? It’s the groups of folks that don’t cover their faces when they sneeze, wash their hands in the washrooms, or breath when they eat. And, those are just the people that we’re in this mess together with. Never mind, those that are supposed to be serving you. The old shoe sales guy who thinks he’s tailoring suits on Savile Row.

‘ Yes sir, they feel great, and nothing like a ten dollar pair of brooks.’

The young kid at the cash counter, who really doesn’t care about what he’s doing or how he’s doing it. You standing at their till is ruining their day. Just steal that item, get tackled by security, so they can go home and mention how crazy work was. That’s just the kid behind the counter, forget about his counterpart, who takes his gig way too serious, and is the shift supervisor. It’s the stores themselves, the advertised buy one, get one free(with very few exclusions), how odd that the one item I like is an exclusion. It’s a new style, color, fit, size, otherwise it’s the same piece of crap. It’s the one store that’s blasting the latest rap or rock song, and then the next that’s playing the sound of a stream. How about just silence? Then, there’s the travel, you’re battling travel, hunger and your driving partner all at the same time. The radio isn’t playing any music you like, and the CD you have has been spinning for a year. And, that’s just getting there!

Never mind, the drive back with tired feet and a sore back, marks on your hands for all the shopping bags, true battle scars. Then, it’s taking all those bags and carrying them into the house, the covers, cases, and wrapping that builds and builds. All of those bags that lay about, and what feels like cataloging and inspecting your purchased items more than you did before you bought them. At some point, the man can finally sit down and rest. It’s all over. Until the next time.

It’s a tale of two movies, one will be the one that your lady will likely to drag you out to, and the other is one, you may need to drag her out to. They also show how you can make a trailer work really well, and how you bomb out on one. I still don’t get how Hollywood can continue to fuck up movie trailers, but you watch the trailer for Katherine Heigl’s ‘Life As We Know It’, and you’ve pretty much seen the entire movie. On the other hand, Danny Boyles, ‘127 Hours’ is so much more impressive. ESPECIALLY, when you don’t even know what the movie is really about after watching the trailer. (It’s based on the true story of Aron Ralston, a mountaineer who amputated his own arm with a dull knife to free himself from a boulder)

It’s August, and we still manage to talk hockey, this country is crazy when it comes to the sport of hockey. This city seems to get hungrier and hungrier for Canuck and hockey news day by day, and this week provided some nourishment.

Willie Mitchell, who was introduced as a big signing for the Vancouver Canucks a few years back, and was considered a key piece of the leadership group with the organization, and probably the leader out of the blue line signed with the LA Kings this week. A two year 7 million dollar contract for a player who hasn’t played since January of this year. The guy is supposed to be a quality guy on and off the ice, a d man, who uses his stick and toughness quite effectively. Many say that the Kings overspent, that while Mitchell was quality when he played, his injuries, more notably two concussions pose a serious concern. The LA Kings seemed willing to take the chance, a team that has gotten even better over the summer since their first round exit to the Canucks. While rumors swirl around Los Angeles about the change of Ilya Kovalchuk arriving, I’m going to say it’s all for nought, the salary cap simply won’t allow LA to add that big of a piece at this time. I hope Mitchell has a couple of great seasons, I was always a fan of his when he played here, hopefully he doesn’t fall victim to any concussions or cheap shots, like he did with Evgeni Malkin.

The Canucks lost a d man, so they added a forward, gotta love the logic eh? The Vancouver Canucks signed forward Raffi Torres to a 1 year, $1 million dollar contract. The signing falls into the ‘Why the hell not?’ category. The 6 ft, 218 pound left winger has been plagued by the label of being an inconsistent player, but even when he doesn’t produce on the score sheet, has always seemed to use his size effectively. While he split his last season with Columbus and Buffalo, he’s probably best known for his time in Edmonton. You almost get the sense that he’s going to be our ‘most bang for the buck’ signing of 2010-2011.

Blogtrot got taken out to a local mma event taking place at the river rock resort and casino. While, I am a fight fan, this was my first live mma event. Battlefield at the river rock kicked off last night with a long list of competitors. The main event of the evening was Chris Day taking on Gurdarshan Mangat, two Canadian fighters who’ve been getting a lot of buzz. A co main event was also billed with a well disciplined Matt Dwyer taking on Jacen Brooks.. All in all the experience was a good one. The crowd was strong and well behaved, even with peppering of Ed Hardy and Affliction shirted juice monkeys. I’m still a proponent to the law that if it looks like a shirt was made with a bedazzler, no man should wear it. Anyways, back to the event, the main card had three or four great fights, likely, with the Dwyer one standing out for me. Of course, as with any event, there’s always going to be a few oddities, this one included Steven Seagal at ringside. No celebrities though.

Thankfully the showtime commentary was left to mike Goldberg. The other crazy bit was some dude thought it’d be a good idea to propose to his girl at the event. The announcer called some seat number for a ‘raffle’ and when the couple came into the ring, it turned out to feel like a demented episode of punk’d. The dude got down on one knee and asked his lady to be the source of 80% of his frustrations in life, and she said yes. Ok, so, he didn’t say it like that. But, what the hell is so romantic about standing in a pool of blood? Maybe, its just seeing two men grapple and hug it out in the ring that brings out the love in folks. All in all, solid event, and aside from a couple of technical difficulties with the cage and a slightly longer than it should’ve been intermission, it was good night for MMA in Vancouver.

I was fortunate enough to be at Jerry Seinfeld last night at the queen Elizabeth theater. The city itself has been pretty fortunate in terms of big name stand up comics. Last few years we’ve had Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, and a few visits from Chris Rock, most recently, now, Jerry Seinfeld. So, four names that wouldn’t feel out of place on a top ten stand up comics of all time. Don’t email me and remind me that dane Cook and Russell Peters have come through, because those two, while they may be popular at the moment are nowhere close to the four names I mentioned. Back to last night, Mario Joyner, opened for the one time king of NBC, and if you saw Chris rock a couple of years ago, you recognized the name, face, and routine. He was funny, but he did the exact same routine as a few years back. So, unless it was your first time seeing the Chris Rock Show alum, he was a little disappointing. Jerry Seinfeld ran and sashayed across stage, his entrance, almost a surprise. Once the standing ovation calmed down, he spent the next hour and a half or so talking about everything from 5 hour energy drinks (who’s working 1 to 6?) to bathroom stalls (is it really that expensive to build that door to the ground?) and of course, plenty of jokes about family, marriage, and our obsession with coffee and gadgets. His humor was exactly what you’d expect, everyday and very relate able, clever observations. Seinfeld is a very clean comedian, so even when he throws in the odd ‘ass’, its almost distracting. He looked comfortable and in control the entire night, and at surprisingly spry 58 years old, he proved he could still make you laugh. The only bad thing was, while there was a Q and A the night before, there wasn’t on either show last night. The venue was great, and kudos to the QE theater for not raping people when it comes to parking. After years of recent gouging at the hands of ‘event parking’ within a 20 mile radius of Rogers arena, paying $40 for an unprotected parking stall seemed to be in line again. QE charged $10 on the night, not bad.

There was a tragedy down in Dallas, where a little Toronto toddler was forgotten in the backseat of a car, and subsequently passed away from the heat. I’m not going to question the judgment of the parents, apparently there was a lot of hustle and bustle, and multiple kids involved in a family reunion. A mistake with tragic results. What I question was some spokesperson of some child safety organization giving tips, what was one of them? Try to leave a very important item in the backseat or the floor in the back, an item like a cell phone or a wallet. So, we’re advised to put a cell phone to place value in the back seat? What about the bloody child!?! Have we become that kind of a society? That we need reminders for our children, that were more likely to remember a material possession than our own flesh and blood?
